A reply to “Harsh Times” by Jeremy J
Social media adds a strange bent to friendships. Before social media, there was the natural drifting of friendships. Now, it becomes almost a game of chicken to remove somebody from a social media platform regardless of how long ago you actually talked. It’s not a ‘casual’ thing for everybody to just remove people off of social media. It must be an act of vengeance, no matter how casual the decision was.
If the decision wasn’t casual, harsh times with former friends feel even more final as you scrub all remnants of your friendship from social media. Excuse the wrung out metaphor, but having a public digital relationship on top of a friendship might make you keep beating a dead horse. You don’t want to deal with the fall out so you chose to just mute them and move on, never quite ready to make the final move.
